OUR NAME
Why "Fabric"?
The name Fabric was inspired by a powerful story shared during one of our early conversations about starting this church. Back in 1862, in the context of a recent revival, mill workers in Manchester made a bold, united stand against slavery by refusing to process cotton picked by enslaved people—even at great personal cost. Their decision, described by Abraham Lincoln as an act of “Christian Heroism,” had a lasting impact and is still honoured in Manchester today.

That story stuck with us. It reminded us that real strength and beauty comes not from one person, but from people woven tightly together in unity , much like fabric itself.

We believe the Church should be like that: a place where
everyone plays a part, where lives are interconnected, and where unity leads to transformation. As Ephesians 2:21 puts it:

“In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.”

The name reflects Manchester’s rich textile heritage, but also points to something deeper ,the power of community, especially in the face of injustice. We want to be a church where young adults and students in the city centre can encounter Jesus, belong to a family, and help bring hope to the city.
(Also, yes, we’re aware of the iconic London nightclub , it’s actually sparked some great conversations with the people we’re trying to reach.)
